TROLLING

While vacationing in Palm Coast, Florida, as usual, I was looking for places to catch big largemouth bass. Palm Coast is packed chualk full with fresh water canals.
For me, the location must be accesible from the road 1st, or visible walking distance from the road with access to a canal for "from the bank "fishing. I found a spot where I could fish from a bridge as well as from the bank on both sides with legal parking along side of the road. This spot had a good amount of current running underneath of the bridge as well as some depth on the east side of the bridge. I was texas rigged, a small bullet wieght ,& a POWER BAIT rubber worm. My favorite color, purple and tossed the rig into the water from the bridge! Well, it wasnt long maybe, 30 seconds and sure enough, it was fish on! And now,...THE FISH STORY.....A couple of bass catches later, I thru my rig from the bridge just under an overhanging tree on the north east side of the canal and BOOM! My rod doubled over and the drag was zinging!! I made my way to the north bank while reeling and fighting the fish. This was a big one. It had not surfaced yet and as I got it close to the bank, there it was! A VACUUM cleaner bag size largemouth black bass! I was so excited I got him to the bank and tried to man handle him with the pole and line onto the bank. That was a mistake! He thrashed and broke the line. He was right there! All I had to do was reach down and LIP him versus the man handle technique....yes,... the big one that got away. I hope to get back there some day. This would be an Ideal location for that BIG BASS planer bobber action! The other areas / canals I checked out were fairly wide and I would like to try the planer bobbers with a rapala 2 piece 6-8 foot diver or the texas rig with rubber worm. The advantage I see for using the "7-11 ~ 3 way" planer bobber is, I can HAVE JUST A SMALL CLEARING AND TOSS OUT A RIG, LET LINE OUT AND THE PLANER BOBBER WILL TAKE MY RIG TO ANY LOCATION DOWN current , either side of the canal or in the middle somewhere for places I just wouldn't be able to cast to with out a planer bobber. I cant wait to try them out! enjoy fishing for big bass and more of "in the city" fishing ( my favorite places to fish) with the urban fisherman!
